CloudEx Inc. ("we", "us", or "our") operates the "File Transfer Pro" app (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices available to you. By using the Service, you are deemed to have agreed to the practices described in this Policy.
1. Our Core Principle
File Transfer Pro lets you exchange files and text with your computer and with nearby phones, share files through a link (QR code), and back up your photos to your own computer or NAS. Your files go directly between your phone and the devices you choose: a web browser on the same network, a nearby phone running the app, or a backup destination you add yourself. They never pass through any server of ours, and we never view, collect, or store them. There is no account and no sign-up. Specifically, we do not have access to any of the following:
- Your photos, videos, music, and other files, or their names
- The files and text you send or receive with the app
- Your backup destinations, or the user names and passwords for them
- The computers, browsers, and phones you connect with, or your transfer history
The only information that reaches us or the services we use is described in Section 3.1.
2. Transfers and Photo Backup
- With your computer: When you tap Start, the app runs a small web server on your phone. A web browser that opens the address shown in the app on the same network (your Wi-Fi, or your phone's hotspot or USB tethering) can list and download your photos, videos, and music, the files you received with the app, and the folders you chose to show, and can send files and text to your phone. Turning off "Allow sending to the phone" makes the computer read-only. Deleting and renaming are off by default; if you turn on "Allow deleting and renaming", a browser can delete or rename only the files you received and the files in the folders you chose, and can never delete photos taken on the phone. Nothing goes through the internet or any server of ours.
- Who can open it: By default, a browser needs the PIN shown in the app or your approval on the phone; you can change this. Approved browsers and the PIN cookie are remembered on your phone until you change the PIN or forget them. The server accepts connections only from addresses on a local network, and stops by itself when it is not used for a while.
- With nearby phones: While receiving is on, the app announces this phone's name (which you can change in the app) on the local network so that other phones running the app can find it. Files and text arrive only after you accept them on the receiving phone — or, if you turn it on, automatically from phones you accepted before.
- Links (QR codes): While the link screen is open, anyone who has the link can either download only the files you chose, or send files to your phone, depending on the kind of link. Closing the screen ends the link.
- When there is no Wi-Fi: "No Wi-Fi?" starts a Wi-Fi network only for nearby devices, with no internet. It is turned off when the link ends.
- These transfers are not encrypted: Transfers with a computer, with nearby phones, and through links use plain HTTP on your local network and are not encrypted. Please use them on a network you trust.
- Location in photos: By default, Android removes the location where a photo was taken when the app reads it for sending. If you turn on "Keep where photos were taken" or "Keep location and original data", photos are sent with their location.
- Photo backup to your own destinations (Premium): The app sends your photos, videos, and the folders you chose only to the destinations you add (a shared folder on your computer or a NAS, using SMB, WebDAV, SFTP, or FTP). The user names and passwords for them are stored encrypted on your phone only and are sent only to those destinations. Whether the connection to a destination is encrypted depends on the type you choose (for example, SFTP and FTPS are encrypted; plain FTP is not). Backup only adds files: deleting a photo on your phone does not delete it from the destination. Restoring copies files from your destination back to your phone. "Free up space" (Android 11 and later) deletes from your phone only photos that are already on the destination, and Android asks you before anything is deleted.
3. Information We Collect
3.1 Information Collected Automatically
- Crash reports: Via Firebase Crashlytics (Google). When the app crashes, we collect a crash report containing the device model, Android version, app version, the part of the app where the problem occurred, and a random identifier that Firebase assigns to this installation of the app. Crash reports do not contain your files, their names, or what you send. The app uses no analytics service and sends no usage statistics.
- Purchase information: Premium is a one-time purchase handled by Google Play. The app asks Google Play whether your Google account owns it. We never receive your payment details, such as credit card numbers. Google Play gives us records of orders (such as the order number, date, and item), which we use only to verify purchases and to answer inquiries about them.
- List of our other apps: The settings tab shows our other apps. To show them, the app downloads the list and the icons from our page on Cloudflare Pages (adblockerpro-lists.pages.dev). Nothing about you or your phone is added to the request, but like any request on the internet, it reaches Cloudflare with your IP address and the standard information Android sends. Which apps are shown is decided on your phone and is not sent anywhere.
- Google Play in-app review and in-app updates: The app may ask Google Play to show a sheet for rating the app, or to check whether a newer version is available. A rating or review you leave there is handled by Google Play.
3.2 Information Stored Only on Your Device
- What the app keeps: Your settings, the PIN, the browsers and phones you allowed, your backup destinations (with the passwords encrypted), the record of what has been backed up, the history of transfers (the most recent 1,000), whether you have bought Premium, the list of our other apps, and small records the app keeps for itself. All of these are stored only on your device.
- Text: Text you send or receive is kept only while the app is running.
- Files you receive: Saved to Download/FileTransferPro, or to the folder you chose.
- Android backup: Your settings and the Premium status may be included in your Android device backup. The PIN, the browsers and phones you allowed, your destinations and passwords, the backup records, and the transfer history are not. This is handled by Android; we have no access to it.
- When you uninstall: Uninstalling the app or clearing its storage deletes all of the above from your phone. Files you received stay in your Download folder (or the folder you chose).
3.3 Information We Explicitly Do Not Collect
- Your photos, videos, music, and other files, or their names
- The files and text you send or receive, or the devices you exchange them with
- Your backup destinations, user names, or passwords
- Your location
- Your name, email address, phone number, or contacts (the app has no account or sign-up)
- Your device's advertising ID
- Usage statistics, or a history of the websites you visit
3.4 Permissions the App Requests and Their Purposes
File Transfer Pro uses the following OS permissions only for the stated purposes:
- Photos, videos, and music (READ_MEDIA_IMAGES / READ_MEDIA_VIDEO / READ_MEDIA_AUDIO / READ_MEDIA_VISUAL_USER_SELECTED; READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE on Android 12 and earlier) — To show them to your computer and to back them up. If you allow access to only some photos, only those are used.
- Location of media (ACCESS_MEDIA_LOCATION) — Only to send photos with their location when you turn that on.
- Nearby Wi-Fi devices (NEARBY_WIFI_DEVICES, Android 13 and later) or location (ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION / ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION, Android 12 and earlier) — Only to start a Wi-Fi network for nearby devices when there is no Wi-Fi. On Android 12 and earlier, Android requires the location permission for this. The app does not use your location.
- Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS, Android 13 and later) — To show what is running, to ask before a new browser or phone connects, and to tell you when files arrive or a backup finishes.
- Foreground services (FOREGROUND_SERVICE; connectedDevice and dataSync) — To keep the connection with your computer and phones (connectedDevice) and photo backup (dataSync) running while you use other apps. A notification is shown while they run.
- Wi-Fi and network state, multicast (ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE / ACCESS_WIFI_STATE / CHANGE_WIFI_STATE / CHANGE_WIFI_MULTICAST_STATE) — To find your phone's addresses and nearby phones, to keep Wi-Fi awake during transfers, and to start the Wi-Fi network for nearby devices.
- Keep awake (WAKE_LOCK) — To keep a transfer going while the screen is off, only while a transfer is in progress.
- Storage (WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, Android 9 and earlier only) — To save files you receive to the Download folder. Not requested on Android 10 and later.
- Run at startup (RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED) — Added by WorkManager, the Android library the app uses to schedule backups. Used only to keep scheduled backups after your phone restarts.
- Google Play billing (com.android.vending.BILLING) — To buy Premium and to check whether your Google account owns it.
- Internet (INTERNET) — To run the server on your local network, to send to nearby phones, to reach your backup destinations, and for crash reports, Google Play, the list of our other apps, and showing this privacy policy in the app.
The app does not use All files access (MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE), an accessibility service, or the permission to see all installed apps (QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES). Apart from your photos, videos, music, and the files it received, the app reads files only from folders you choose yourself.
4. How We Use Information
The limited information we receive is used only for the following purposes:
- Operating and maintaining the Service
- Verifying your Premium purchase and answering inquiries about purchases
- Diagnosing and fixing crashes
- Responding to support inquiries
- Complying with applicable laws
5. Third-Party Services
File Transfer Pro uses the following third-party services. Each service has its own privacy policy.
- Firebase Crashlytics (Google LLC) — crash reports
- Google Play Billing (Google LLC) — the one-time Premium purchase; payment is completed on Google Play, and we do not receive your payment details
- Google Play In-App Review and In-App Updates (Google LLC) — let you rate the app and install updates without leaving it; handled by Google Play
- Cloudflare Pages (Cloudflare, Inc.) — hosts the list of our other apps
Your backup destinations are computers, NAS devices, or servers that you choose and add yourself. The app connects to them only to back up and restore your files.
6. Data Retention
- Crash reports: retained for 90 days, then deleted.
- Support emails: retained for 12 months after the last reply, then deleted (except where legally required).
- Data stored on your device: kept until you delete it, uninstall the app, or clear the app's storage. The transfer history keeps only the most recent 1,000 entries, and text is kept only while the app is running.
- Files you received, and files backed up to your destinations: kept until you delete them. Uninstalling the app does not delete them.
7. International Data Transfers
We are based in Japan. The infrastructure used for crash reports, Google Play, and hosting the list of our other apps may be located in various countries. When you use the Service, the minimal information described above may be processed outside your country of residence under standard contractual safeguards.
8. Your Rights
Depending on where you reside (e.g., the EEA, UK, California, Japan), you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of the limited information we hold. You can:
- Change the PIN, forget all allowed browsers, or forget a known phone in the app at any time
- Clear the transfer history, or delete a backup destination (files already on the destination are not deleted), in the app
- Withdraw the photos and videos, music, nearby devices, location, or notifications permission in your device settings at any time
- Uninstall the app or clear its storage to erase everything it stores on your phone
- Contact us at the address below to make a request regarding the information we hold
9. Children's Privacy
File Transfer Pro is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the minimum age applicable in your region). If we inadvertently collect information from such a child, we will delete it promptly upon being contacted.
10. Changes to This Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. The latest version is always published at this URL together with its effective date. We will also notify you within the app of significant changes as appropriate.
11. Contact
"Contact us", and the feedback from "Rate this app", open your email app with the app version, Android version, and device model already filled in. Nothing is sent until you send the email yourself.
